Hi, I’m Michael

I tell science and history stories about public lands—using familiar places to approach new ideas.

The US is home to some of the most incredible natural spaces in the world. Working as a Park Ranger at Glacier National Park, I quickly saw that the appetite to learn about these places reaches beyond any park boundaries.

The only problem is, agencies like the National Park Service have (historically) been behind the curve when it comes to digital media. I’ve been trying to change that.

Here’s how:

  • Podcasting: Sharing surprising stories of ecology, conservation, and indigenous perspectives through the show Headwaters, a longform narrative podcast from Glacier National Park, which has been featured on Montana Public Radio

  • Videos: Filming and editing high quality videos (and animations), including a project about desert tortoise conservation in the Mojave Desert

  • Social Media: Creating engaging content for large audiences—having managed IG/FB/Twitter accounts for both Glacier and Joshua Tree National Parks

  • And More: DSLR photography, Designing & Installing Exhibits, Accessibility, etc
